Deciding Factors for a Structured Landscaping Schedule
Knowing when to perform various maintenance jobs for your landscape can be tricky. The largest commercial landscaping companies understand that many factors can affect the structure of a landscaping schedule. Some of these factors include:
- The size of the area to be cared for
- The current condition of the land needing attention
- The seasonal weather patterns of the area in question
With these variables in mind, landscaping professionals can create a schedule for planting, pruning and other tasks.
Tasks to Include in Your Annual List
- March – Grasses should be cut for the first time to encourage growth during this month. By the end of the month, perennial plants should be cut back to the appropriate height.
- April – This is a good time to put down mulch. Slow release fertilizer is also best to put down at this point. As bulbs begin sprouting and plants surge to life for the spring growing season, it’s important to note that quick growth during this time means fewer weeds in summer.
- May through August – This is the time to plant annuals. Watering schedules should also be adjusted regularly, depending on the weather. Weeding is important during summer, as well.
- September through December – This is the time to plant spring annuals in preparation for the following year, and begin weather-proofing your area for colder weather.
January and February are months that require little maintenance to plant life, but qualified landscapers often continue upkeep to soil and lawn structure by controlling the collection of snow and ice. There is always something to be done in an efficient landscaping schedule!
