Electric Repair In Indianapolis Will Keep The Lights On

by lashawn lanners | Dec 23, 2016 | Electrician

Are the lights flickering? Are there plugs, switches, or lighting fixtures that aren’t properly working? Homeowners will turn off lights in a home when the lights flicker and may think it’s just the service outside. When the lights in a home or business start to flicker, it should be a cause for concern. Overloaded circuits or loose wiring can become a fire hazard in the walls. Some electrical problems are not dangerous, but only an electrician will know the difference and correct the problem before anything else happens to the wiring.

There are several signs an electrical system will give when it needs electric repair in Indianapolis. They are:

* A breaker in the fuse panel keeps tripping. If there are too many volts being used on a line to a breaker, it will cause the breaker to shut off. Before resetting the breaker, unplug the appliance or item that tripped the plug. Once the breaker is turned back on, the item can be plugged back into the socket. If the breaker continues to shut off, it needs to be repaired. Nothing should ever be placed in the fuse panel to keep the breaker forced into the on position.

* When a plug is inserted in an outlet, it should not cause a spark. If someone sees smoke coming from the outlet, they should use a fire extinguisher to put out any fire. If someone’s not sure if it’s the appliance or the outlet, they could try plugging it into a different outlet. If it works in another outlet, the wiring to the plug needs to be inspected by a licensed, bonded, and insured electrician.

* An electrical or wind storm in the area could cause a problem with the wiring in the home. Outlets and switches can go bad due to age or wear. If these constantly need to be replaced, the building needs to have an electrical upgrade performed.
